This is my first experience being involved in a community service program. Our destination, the orphanage. I was tasked as the event photographer.. if you call this a corporate event, then it's my first corporate event..
By the way all pictures are not edited.
Our team were divided into 5 teams (Games & Activities, 3 Gotong-Royong teams - paint job, cleaning & installation/repair and also Motivational Workshop).
The day started with an assembly, then later breakfast....
As we form a bridge with these kids, the more we learn about who they are, where they come from, we learnt about their fear, hopes & dreams and more importantly we learn about ourselves.
Among themselves, they are very close-knitted. They are like a huge group of brothers & sisters.. The way they interact with one another gives me an altered perception. Their tone, their words, body language and politeness is breath taking..
Do you see this girl sitting on the red metal foldable stool? She's paralysed waist below. Can you imagine was she's going through? When asked "Adik nak turum ke padang, join kawan-kawan lain?' She didn't respond with words.. but instead, she paused a moment.. with a teary eye, she spread her arm indicating her agreement to my suggestion.. I carried her down the 60 degrees inclined staircase. As I put her on the stool at the end.. I had to wipe off my tears.. A liberating experience, I must say!
Very participative this kids. In one word.. 'engaging'
The little one also wanted to join...
Their classroom. These teenage boys are preparing for their PMR & SPM.
Motivational workshop.. Majority wants to be engineers, geoscientist and accountants...
.. But this boy, he just wants to grow up and be with his young brother.. He knows he has a younger baby brother, but ever since the mother passed away 2 or 3 years ago, the brother have yet to be united..
What are lessons learned from this community service program? You need to experience it yourself!!
